Railway Loco Pilot Eligibility

1.You must have passed the 10th class from a recognized board and if you have passed ITI from NCVT/SCVT in the related trade such as Fitter, Electrician, Diesel Mechanic, Wireman, Electronics Mechanic, etc., then you are eligible to apply.

2.If you have taken training on Apprentice posts in the related trade after passing the 10th class, then you can apply.

3.If you have passed the 10th class along with an Engineering Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering (or a combination of these streams), then you can apply.

4.If you have an engineering degree like BE/B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering, then also you are eligible to apply.

Age Limit

To be eligible to apply for Loco Pilot in Railways, along with qualification, your age should not be less than 18 years and not more than 30 years.

Age Relaxation:-

1.Candidates belonging to the SC/ST category get an extension of 5 years in the upper age limit.

2.Those from the OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) category are given a relaxation of 3 years.

3.For Ex-servicemen:

• UR and EWS categories – age limit can be extended by 3 years after deducting the years of service.

• OBC-NCL – an extension of 6 years is provided after deduction.

• SC/ST – they can avail an 8-year relaxation after the applicable deduction.

How to Become Railway Loco Pilot

RRB Loco Pilot Competitive Examination

Railway Loco Pilot CBT-I Exam

1.In the Railway Loco Pilot CBT-I exam, a computer-based test is conducted, and questions are asked from 4 subjects.

RRB Loco Pilot CBT 2 Examination

The CBT 2 examination is conducted in two separate papers. Each correct answer carries 1 mark, while for every incorrect answer, 1/3 mark is deducted as negative marking.

Paper 1 is of 100 marks and candidates are given a total of 90 minutes to complete it.

CBAT (Computer-Based Aptitude Test)

After CBT 2, candidates who qualify are called for the CBAT. This stage is not about scoring high but simply qualifying. It is designed to evaluate how candidates make decisions and react in critical situations. Most candidates pass this stage if they are well-prepared.

1.CBT 1: The first stage is CBT 1, which is qualifying in nature. Candidates who pass this stage become eligible for CBT 2.

Life of a Railway Loco Pilot

Work Hours

In Indian Railways, the working hours and rest periods of a Loco Pilot (ALP) depend on the type of duty assigned.

•Passenger Trains: After working for a maximum of 6 hours, a break of 30 minutes is given, followed by another 6 hours of duty and then 3 hours of rest.

•Goods Trains: After a maximum of 8 hours of duty, a rest period of 2 hours is provided.
